Fillmore police recently arrested two men, both 34 years old, in connection to a vehicle that was reported stolen in Santa Barbara County. The two men were taken by police after they were stopped while driving the allegedly stolen vehicle, but not before one of them fled, according to The Ventura County Star.

While one man remained in the Toyota Prius after police had stopped, the driver took off, running into the neighborhood. However, the police later found the suspect in a nearby neighborhood. The allegedly fleeing driver was wanted on a felony warrant and listed as a parolee at large. He was arrested on suspicion of having stolen a vehicle and for his felony warrant. The other man was also arrested in connection with the allegedly stolen vehicle.

California Penal Code 487 defines the theft of an automobile as grand theft, which may be punishable as either a misdemeanor or felony, which can result in years in prison and thousands of dollars in fines. This often depends on the value of the car and can result in additional criminal charges, such a burglary, robbery, and carjacking, depending on how the vehicle was taken.
