A 33-year-old woman is facing charges for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), manslaughter and child endangerment after driving her car into a tree along the Pacific Coast Highway recently. Her 7-year-old son was killed in the collision.
The accident occurred at 7 p.m. in the evening as the woman drove her friend and her three children home after having spent the day at the beach. Her three children were in the backseat where there were only two working seatbelts. The youngest child was not wearing a seatbelt and declared dead on the scene.
Fortunately, one child did not suffer any physical injuries; however, the other sustained a broken arm. The woman's friend survived with multiple fractures and injuries to her face.
The CHP officers said that the driver had shown signs of intoxication. She was booked at the Ventura County Jail.
