3 Common Los Angeles Bike Accident Injuries

Posted by Dan Kann | Oct 16, 2020 | 0 Comments

Riding a bike in the sunny Los Angeles weather can be both fun and efficient--when you are on a bike, you don't have to worry about sitting in the heavy traffic the area is known for. However, because there are so many cars on the road, riding a bike can also be dangerous. Unfortunately, Los Angeles is also known for being the county with the highest number of fatal bike accidents in the state of California. From 2016-2018, there were over 100 fatal bike accidents in Los Angeles County.

While not all bike accidents are fatal, many result in very serious injuries for the cyclist. The sheer size and force of a car can do a lot of harm to a cyclist. Three of the most common types of bike accident injuries include:

  • Head and Face Injuries: When a cyclist is hit, head and face injuries often occur due to colliding with the vehicle or falling and hitting the ground. Even when wearing a helmet, these head injuries can occur if the cyclist is hit hard enough. The injuries from the blunt force of a hit to the head or face can include concussions, serious brain injuries, skull fractures, mouth and teeth injuries. These injuries are often very serious and require extensive medical treatment and recovery.
  • Breaks and Sprains: Unfortunately, bicycle accidents usually involve a fall. The impact of a fall can result in broken bones, such as a broken wrist, arm, or leg, or a sprain. A broken bone can require a lengthy recovery period--even a bad sprain can require months to properly heal.
  • Neck and Back Injuries: The impact of being hit by a vehicle can result in painful neck and back injuries. From whiplash to spinal injuries, neck and back injuries can be serious. Spinal injuries can lead to permanent injuries that can affect you for the rest of your life.

What to Do When You Are Injured in a Bicycle Accident

If you are injured in a Los Angeles bike accident, due to the fault of a negligent or reckless vehicle driver, you deserve to be compensated for your injuries. Because a cyclist is more vulnerable when involved in an accident with a car, the injuries are typically much more severe. If you have suffered any of the above-mentioned injuries, or any other bike accident injury, you can bring a personal injury claim against the driver responsible.

A personal injury claim helps you recover financially for the costs and losses associated with your injuries. You can receive compensation for medical bills due to hospital stays, doctors visits, and other treatment or therapy, as well as for lost wages or lost earning capacity you suffer because of your injuries.
