Drive Safe During Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

Posted by Dan Kann | May 01, 2019 | 0 Comments

Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner. This often means parties, friends, good food, and alcohol. While it's important to have a great time, it's even more important to stay safe!

Too often, individuals who drink at Cinco de Mayo parties do not plan on driving afterwards, but poor planning leads to them getting behind the wheel. This can be both dangerous and deadly. Therefore, those planning on go to Cinco de Mayo parties and enjoying alcohol should plan ahead to find a safe way home instead of driving themselves. This is also important because California Highway Patrol announced that they plan to set up DUI checkpoints in Orange County. For example, The Buena Park Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint in the city between the hours of 8:00 PM and 3:00 AM.

In California, a DUI conviction can make your life difficult—a drunk driving conviction can impact your ability to drive, result in fines and jail time, and can impact your ability to remain employed or hold certain types of jobs. A DUI conviction increases with each additional drunk driving conviction that occurs within a ten-year period. Your sentence, therefore, will depend on whether or not this is your first, second or subsequent offense.

If you have been charged with a DUI, either by a police officer pulling you over or after being stopped at a checkpoint, it is important to remember that you have rights. There are many possible defenses to a DUI charge, including showing that your rights were violated, showing that the officers lacked probable cause, or showing that the field sobriety tests were not accurate. An experienced Southern California DUI defense attorney can determine the most appropriate defense for your case.
